Project Highlight: Blade of Eternity

Blade of Eternity (BoE) is a fantasy themed text-based MMORPG. It started out as a university thesis project, but has grown into a full-blown game that I have been working on over the past year. The game is set in a medieval era and features many different fantasy-themed character classes, quests, items and crafts. The object of the game is to increase your characters' level through player-to-player combat and by doing other various game tasks. Players also strive to obtain the best possible equipment for their character class. Clans are created for community purposes or to compete with other clans in a clan war.

Unlike the traditional MUD, Blade of Eternity contains visual elements. This includes graphic banners and illustrations as well as a simple graphical user interface.

The game was built on the McCodes V2 engine which uses PHP and MySQL. The game also features many jQuery/AJAX functionality additions and modifications.

The Blade of Eternity community is continually growing and currently has 6,700+ registered players with an average of 100+ daily active players. A wiki exists for the game details important information and tips about the game and is largely player managed. There is also a Facebook group for Blade of Eternity which aims to connect players with each other, as well as to offer in-game promotions and game updates.
